18th International Course on Stone Conservation (2013)

The 18th International Course on Stone Conservation has been announced to take place in Rome in 2013. The course is open to archaeologists, architects, conservator-restorers, conservation scientists, engineers and other professionals involved in stone conservation, preferably with at least five years of practical working experience in the field. Preference is given to heritage conservation professionals in the public sector, teachers involved in the practical training of conservation professionals, and those in a position to disseminate and leverage the knowledge gained during the course to a wider audience. Stone Conservation Lecture for the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland

I will be delivering the final lecture of the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland's (AHSS) Autumn & Winter Events Programme on 2nd April.

'Alice Custance Baker, the Building Materials Analyst at the Scottish Lime Centre Trust, will tell us about her experience studying Stone Conservation in Rome (partially funded by the AHSS), bringing in Scottish case studies. Topics that will be covered include the influence of biological growth on stone deterioration, the complex nature of salts and their removal, and the question of whether stone consolidants and water repellents are right for Scottish buildings.'

12th International Congress on Deterioration and Conservation of Stone

Many of the 17th International Course on Stone Conservation participants hope to attend the forthcoming 12th International Congress on Deterioration and Conservation of Stone in New York in October 2012. The conference is being chaired by George Wheeler, who is a member of the conference scientific committee, which also includes Veronique Verges-Belmin; both of whom were tutors on the course (see Tuesday 7th June 2011; Consolidation- Introduction, Water-Based Treatments and Solvent Based Treatments and Tuesday 14th June 2011; Desalination) .
